How to Care for Dried Flowers & Keep Them Looking Beautiful for Months (or Longer!)
Share
Dried flower bouquets are a beautiful, sustainable way to bring long-lasting charm into your home. Whether you’ve just received one of our arrangements or are wondering how long dried flowers last, this guide will show you how to keep them looking lovely for as long as possible.
🌸 How Long Do Dried Flowers Last?
Dried flowers can last from 6 months to well over a year, depending on how they’re cared for. I have arrangements well into their 2nd year with tons of life still left in them. With minimal upkeep, your bouquet can stay vibrant and beautiful for a really long time!
🌿 Displaying your dried flowers
First things first, when your bouquet arrives, you'll want to unpack it and get it ready for display! We pack our dried flower bouquets snugly supported for safe delivery. When yours arrives:
- Gently tease out or reshape any parts that settled during transit.
- If you have a ready arranged design, keep the bouquet tied if possible and place it in a vase that fits it well.
- A rounded hand-tie works best in a vase with a broader bottom, to accommodate the stems, a front facing bouquet works best in bottle shaped vase with a narrower top, or one which has a fluted opening, to mirror the shape of the arrangement.
- Use pebbles in the vase to help support stems if you need to lift your arrangement up.
- Trim lower stems if the display is too tall and the flowers sit too high above the lip of your vase. The binding should be hidden by the vessel.
- Expect some natural shedding while handling and in the box after transit—we include extra stems just in case!
Each bouquet features twisty stems, unusual shapes, and colour variations, which add to the natural charm of dried flowers. No two arrangements are ever the same!
🌞 Care For Dried Flower Bouquets
Dried flowers need just a little care to look their best and keep them looking lovely for longer:
-
Keep Them Dry & Out of Sunlight
Moisture and direct light can cause fading or “wilting.” Avoid placing them in humid areas like bathrooms as this can encourage mould growth (as with anything kept in a bathroom!). -
Dust Gently
Use a hairdryer on a cool setting to remove dust on your bouquet. For preserved foliage, a soft paint brush can be useful- it can help to clean any awkward areas on your greenery.
🌾 Preserved Foliage Tips
Some of our arrangements include preserved greenery for added richness. Here’s what to know:
- 💡 Preserved greenery may not be colourfast—avoid rubbing or contact with fabrics.
- 💡 Temperature changes may cause some preservative to appear on leaves. If this happens, simply wipe away residue with a soft cloth.
🚫 Important Safety Notes
- Dried flowers may not be suitable for consumption and if using to decorate foodstuffs, care must be taken to avoid direct contact with any parts which are to be eaten.
- Keep flowers away from children and pets.
- Avoid excess handling, which can lead to breakage or shedding.
- Keep away from naked flames like candles.
